Some pictures of the Noma Children Hospital in Sokoto

Fresh noma case 1: Big parts of the soft facial tissue and the bone are destroyed by the infectious disease  Fresh noma case 2: Noma is not only a physical problem. It also is a huge social problem because often the children are kept hidden from the community.
Fresh Noma case 3: Besides the physical and social problems an emotional disorder can develope because they become aware of the fact that they will never be able to start a 'normal' life.    Fresh Noma case 4: Most of the victims are less then 6 years old and almost 90% of them don't survive their disease. The few that get over it are marked for life and have to struggle daily to deal with their handicap.
Children and parents find their 'home' temporally in the Noma Children Hospital during treatment.     As outpatients as inpatients get the attention they need, staying no longer then really necessary in the hospital.
Little cabins are available to stay during treatment and rehabilitation.  The theatre has the capacity of three operation tables and accompanying surgical and anaesthetic equipment.
